Permaculture Redux [2025]
mock campaign
The Brief
In creating a campaign for a personally selected local organization, the goal for the annual HOPES Sustainable Design Conference was to increase awareness and drive attendance.
The Strategy
In the early days of the internet, hippies gathered on forums & bonded over a shared vision of designing a future where humans lived harmoniously with nature. The desire for utopian systems that integrate the natural world with ours remains ever-present today, visible in Gen Z’s penchant for the solarpunk-esque visual cues that grace Studio Ghibli films or that one Chobani ad.
In comparison to the ideological unity that could be found on the Whole Earth ‘Lectronic Link(WELL), one of the earliest digital social spaces, the modern online environment is far more fragmented– both structurally and ideologically. The rapid pace of the feed decimates historical continuity, making it difficult to process the perspectives of prior generations.
To a fragmented and cynical generation, the notion that “you are not alone” is intriguing. By approaching college students in real life, permaculture redux seeks to inform that passion for sustainable design is inter-generational. The fight lives on. Not all hope is lost.
